Pair of Chinese Carved Soapstone Dishes

Description

This is a handsome pair of Chinese carved soapstone dishes.
Both pieces measure approximately 4 ¾” in length and 3” and 3 ½” in width.
Soapstone is a soft stone that comes in a variety of colors and has been crafted by Chinese artisans for more than 3,000 years.
This pair of shallow dishes or bowls are made of tan and beige soapstone, one with marbling, and feature skillfully hand-carved floral and leaf designs.
Both pieces are marked on the base with an etched, “CHINA”.
Due to the delicate nature of the soapstone and the age of each of these pieces there are noticeable imperfections and areas of damage.
They are in fair condition with various chips and cracks.
Despite these flaws they are still attractive soapstone works of art.
